BADDIES + DADDIES!

We're kicking off your stories with one of the most magnetic + hard working baddies I know! From running with a Marine uncle as a kid to training for Masters Worlds as an Olympic weightlifter, today’s feature is all about mental toughness, lifting heavy, and silencing the excuses. She’s not here to be a weak ass bitch 😤

"As a child with trauma, [running with my uncle] ignited something in me. It made me realize I was strong, I was capable"

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO THE GYM?

I remember being really young and my Uncle David, who was a marine; taking me on a run. I’m pretty sure it was his form of babysitting. I didn’t know where we were going or how long we were going to be out there … we just started running and he said keep up. I knew if I wanted to get back home I had to follow him. I had to keep going and I couldn’t quit.

As a child with trauma, that ignited something in me. It made me realize I was strong, I was capable; it gave me confidence that I could overcome fear and pain, and for as long as I can remember, putting myself in the most physically and mentally tough situations and fighting through it, is what has made me tick.

As I grew up I chased after that and as an adult I lean into the hard stuff. I run into the fire instead of away from it. From competitive childhood sports to weight training in high school- I got my first gym membership at Gold’s Gym when I was 16 and the rest is history.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

I learned very quickly that I was not built to be a runner… and while I still love the high from a good run; the weights are my true love. I fell into Olympic Weightlifting about a year ago and I’m riding the wave wherever it takes me. I’m training for Masters Worlds in December. My current lifting goals are 80|100. 80kg snatch and 100kg C&J !

WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP, WHAT DO YOU SAY TO YOURSELF?

“You did not wake up today to be a weak ass bitch” …. It’s actually true. I silence the bitch voice. I look myself in the mirror and tell myself to quit being a little bitch and get the shit done. Those days are usually my best lifting days!!
